What's in the Operating Rooms?

Ten new operating rooms, at 700 square feet each, are large by industry standards. These are in addition to six operating rooms in use in the attached medical center.

State-of-the-Art Interventional Suites
Four state-of-the-art interventional suites will be used for vascular procedures, interventional radiology, cardiology and neurology/neurosurgery.

Green Lighting
Special green lighting is used in all operating rooms. Studies have shown that green lighting allows the human eye to better distinguish fine lines and smaller objects, an advantage when performing surgery.

Wall of Knowledge
The "Wall of Knowledge" in each operating room will include information about the patient - gender, age, diagnosis, registration and bed number - as well as the names and duties of all surgical staff. The 42-inch flat-screen will provide every member of the surgical team with a view of important medical information, reducing error and improving safety. Henry Ford created the program for the dashboard - the first in Michigan.

Identical Rooms
All operating rooms are identical, so that the sterile field, crash cart, etc. - even the placement of the patient - are in the same place in every room. This familiarity can save precious seconds at critical times. Nationally, operating room setups vary within the same building.

Robotic Surgery
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital will offer robotic surgery, including prostatectomies, gynecological procedures, hysterectomies, partial nephrectomies and urologic surgeries.

Specialty Labs
There will be two cardiac catheterization labs and two angiography rooms at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital for treating heart attacks.
